Mission statement
Our mission is to preserve and honor the memories of veterans of all branches of the military who made the sacrifice to protect our great nation in a venue that is free and open to everyone.

History
The museum is housed in Brookhaven’s historic old train depot at 125 S. Whitworth Avenue. Originally constructed in 1907 by the Illinois Central railroad as the Union Station and freight house, the Tudor-revival brick building was designed by F. D. Chase. It is a major piece of the city’s railroad heritage and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. Paul Jackson is credited with helping establish and organize the museum along with Roffie Burt, a Vietnam veteran, who also kept the day to day activites running for many years. Among other numerous millitary artifacts housed in the museum are model ships and planes built by Randal Smith and Greg Whittier. In 2026, a board was created to continue the museum’s operations and relieve Roffie Burt after his long, dedicated service to the Museum.
